College Wood Elementary

A Great Year!

By: James Dowell

It is hard to believe that we are a month into the new school year already. It seems like time flies by so fast. I want to welcome all the returning families back to College Wood ESE and welcome all the new families that will be joining us for the school year. We have some great things planned for the school year and hope that you will be enjoying them with us.

We have many returning faces as well as a few new ones. Ms. Jones, Ms. Reed, Ms Goins are returning this year. Mr. Bangs, Mr. Kremer, Ms Crittendon, Ms. Yu and Ms. Miller are some of the new faces that you will be seeing. Ms. Rubio is back in her position as Assistant Site Supervisor, and I am back as your Site Supervisor. I say your Site Supervisor because, ultimately, I am here for you and your children.

Another school year has begun. No doubt our younger students were a little apprehensive about what to expect, what would it be like, and, of course, what to do. Fortunately, our returning student body took many of our young ones under their wings and helped them get adjusted to the program. I see so many smiling faces now that it is hard to imagine many of these children have not been with us that long.

R.I.C.H.E.R. "Right-Ups"

By: James Dowell

I'm sure by now that most of you have seen the bulletin board that is up at the parent table. We are using the board this year to display the R.I.C.H.E.R "Right-Ups" from the day's program. I know most of you see me holding a piece of paper for you when you walk in and assume that I have something bad to say. We want to make sure that you know all the great things that your child does on a daily basis. Now, they may not get a R.I.C.H.E.R "Right-Up" every day, but we will make sure that all the kids are recognized for the wonderful things that they do.

The Extended School Enrichment program is based on the R.I.C.H.E.R. principles which stand for Respect, Integrity, Caring, Harmony, Excellence, and Responsibility. When a child does something that displays one or more of these principles, the staff here at College Wood ESE will recognize them with a R.I.C.H.E.R. "Right-Up." The child then brings the award out to the parent table and gives it to Ms. Rubio or myself and this award is immediately displayed on the giant corkboard for all to see. I hope that you will be as excited about your child receiving a R.I.C.H.E.R "Right-Up" as we are about giving them out.
