Last Bracelets for Baylie Party Recap

As many of you know, Thursday, April 29th, was the last Bracelets for Baylie Celebration this year. Baylie marks another milestone in her mission with Chiari Malformation by graduating fifth grade this year and the Extended School Enrichment program at Smoky Row wanted to help make it the day to remember.

We have all gotten to know the Owen family as Baylie and her younger sister Cidney have joined us after school for the last several years. All the students attending afterschool joined forces with the Bracelets for Baylie volunteers to make the drive well over 100 students strong. With both organizations combined, the cafeteria was full of busy children working hard to make bracelets that would eventually be sold around the world for $5 to fund research on Chiari Malformation. The students were such great volunteers that it was difficult for us to keep enough supplies ready.

Although Baylie is leaving Smoky Row for the bigger middle school, her inspiration and motivational influence leaves behind a group of young leaders who want to continue the drive next year. Thursday was a unique experience for students, partially from the leadership committee, to volunteer and see how they can continue to run the program next year.

We are glad to say the event was successful and that we wish Baylie the best of luck next year. Again if you would like more information on ordering bracelets or would like to donate glass beads, please go to www.baylieforbrains.com or contact Tressie Owen at tressieowen@hotmail.com and Amy Baldauf at abaldauf@carmelclayparks.com.

School’s Almost Out!

That’s right… we’re approaching the end of the 2009-2010 school year! We hope you’ve had a great year and enjoyed all that ESE has to offer! To finish this year with a bang, we’ve lined up a few special activities:

Monday, May 24th ESE E-Market Carnival
There will be games, prizes, bounce houses and more at this day of fun from 3:30-5:30! This day also marks the final E-Market for the year, so bring all your hard-earned money, earn some tickets from some games, and spend away! Our first annual ESE Garage Sale will also take place alongside the E-Market store (see separate flyer for more info on this)!

Tuesday, May 25th Silly Safari
Silly Safari will bring all of their wiggly, crawly, fuzzy animals for us to see! We’ll learn all about the creatures that they’ve picked from their “zoo” to bring to SR from 3:30-4:30!

Wednesday, May 26th West Park
Join us for a relaxing day at the park from 3:00 to 5:30. We’ll throw around some balls, make some crafts, and have a generally good time! We’ll take a bus to this destination.

Thursday, May 25th Smoky Row Water Day
The kids will be released early on Thursday, the final day of SCHOOL, at 10:50 a.m. We’ll eat a picnic lunch under a few tents and then splish splash down some slip-in slides on the SR lawn! We may even have a water balloon throwing contest as well!
