Pinwheel Garden at the Monon Community Center

Pinwheel-for-prevention-2011-logo-w-IndianaApril is Prevent Child Abuse month.  In an effort to bring awareness to this important topic, Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) is teaming up with Pinwheel Promises of Hamilton County, in conjunction with Prevent Child Abuse Indiana, to “plant” a pinwheel garden at the Monon Community Center.

Pinwheel gardens symbolize the promise for a happy, full life for all children born in Hamilton County.  Pinwheels for Prevention is a national effort that raises awareness for child abuse prevention across the nation.  CCPR is proud to show our support for the children of Hamilton County and a healthy start for all children.  The pinwheel garden will be “planted” by Pinwheel Promises Hamilton County volunteers on April 13th and will remain at the MCC until the end of the month.

CCPR has a long history of taking steps to prevent child abuse.  In 2011, our Extended School Enrichment (ESE) program partnered with Chaucie’s Place of Carmel to offer Darkness to Light Stewards of Children training.  This is a child sexual abuse prevention and education program. All ESE employees are now required to attend this important training within 6 months of their hire date and maintain current certification throughout their tenure with Pinwheels_1ESE.

We all play a role when it comes to ensuring healthy starts for our nation’s children. You can help by volunteering to baby-sit for a relative or neighbor in need of a break.  Giving your time and/or monetary donation to a local child or family serving agency such as Chaucie’s Place is another great way to give back.
