Vera J. Hinshaw Preserve

The Vera J. Hinshaw Preserve is 9.8 acres of undeveloped nature preserve located east of the Monon Greenway, just north of the Monon South Trailhead.

The preserve has several mature, high-quality trees, including hickory, walnut, black cherry, and oak. Our goal is to eradicate the invasive species on the property and restore the wooded area with native species. We hope that removing invasive species from the seed bank will provide natural regeneration of favorable native species. We will jumpstart the process by adding native trees and shrubs that will help restore the woods.

To access the preserve, park at the Monon Greenway South Trailhead at 1430 E 96th St, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
