Equity vs. Equality?

Welcome back to Inclusion Corner!

Today our ESE inclusion team is discussing the difference between equity and equality.

Equality is everyone getting the same thing, whereas equity is everyone getting what they need to be successful. Here at ESE we strive to provide equitable programs, providing children supports and modifications to be successful in our programs.

An example of equality vs. equity: Equality would be if we gave every child the exact same pair of size 2 shoes. Size 2 may not fit each child, but it is equal to give them all the exact same thing. Equity, however, would be if we still gave every child the exact same pair of shoes but in the size that fit each of them.
